Imogen Haviland (b. 2000) Fine Art Photographer and Visual Artist.

Imogen Haviland is a photographer exploring the natural world through the versatile medium of photography. With a background in Fine Art (University of Arts London, BA Fine Art Photography), she subverts the traditional expectation of the nature photograph by adding alternative photographic techniques to her work.

Spending her time from the ancient woodlands of the UK to the moss-draped swamps of Louisiana, she studies wildlife and ecosystems patiently to ensure the perfect image that is never forced. Understanding animal behaviour, feeding patterns and breeding seasons allows for complete ethical practice. Using telephoto lenses if necessary to admire from a distance ensures an animal's safety.

She blends a mixture of digital and analog processes to create images that feel painted as much as photographed. Every image is meticulously toned and colour graded by hand. Working with analog processes such as lumen printing, cyanotypes and chemigrams, she creates dimensional textures that are scanned and woven back into her photographic work, letting sun, chemistry, and organic matter leave their trace directly on the final image. The result is photography that carries something handmade beneath its surface: grain, bloom, and imperfection borrowed from 19th-century process and folded into contemporary composition.
